Our values

Most parts of the global fashion industry is opaque, exploitative and harmful to the environment, and revolutionary changes are urgently needed. I love fashion, but I don’t want my clothes to be made at the expense of people or our planet.

That is why frankie & lou offers decelerated and conscious children’s fashion – slow kids fashion, sustainable, decelerated fashion that is in contrast to the fast-moving mass-produced goods of the fashion industry

frankie & lou relies on timeless basics and key pieces that can be easily combined. In our collections, we only use high-quality materials and fabrics, sustainable, pollutant-tested fabrics in certified organic quality. As a sustainable children’s fashion label, frankie & lou wants to take responsibility for people and the environment and create awareness for decelerated fashion.

You can make a big contribution to changing the fashion world by supporting labels that produce sustainably or buy second-hand goods. A love of fashion and an appreciative attitude towards people and the environment can be combined very well. frankie & lou wants to make a contribution to this.

Part of the collection was made in a small factory in Portugal, which I visited myself to get an idea of the working and production conditions on site and with which I am in regular personal contact. I got to know loving and devoted people on site who love their work and work under high social standards.

Only high quality and certified biomaterials that are free of any harmful substances are used. High-quality workmanship is very important to me so that my articles are long-lasting and, as I would like, can be passed on to siblings, family and friends.

The bags in which the items are packed and delivered are 100% recycled and biodegradable. I also use cardboard made from recycled materials, work with renewable energy at my workplace, try to print as little as possible and if I do, then on recycled paper.

Today we are used to receiving an order that we place the next day, free of charge of shipping and return of course. Discount campaigns and bargain prices lead us to more and more consumption.

But there is another way. We can shop more consciously, pay attention to quality and support smaller and local labels that represent our values and views. We shouldn’t ignore the fact that, along with the food industry, fashion is one of the biggest polluters (hier lesenswerter Link). frankie & lou recognizes this fact and we are doing our best to do our part in a revolution in the fashion business.

In the beginning Leny not only designed all the collections himself, selected the fabrics, developed the cuts and patterns, took care of marketing etc., but also produced (sewed) them himself.

With increasing demand, this was no longer possible and she decided to outsource production.
Collection design and planning, pattern design and selection of fabrics and prints, Leny continues to do herself.
Frankie and Lou is handcrafted in small series in a factory in Portugal.
The facility shares the core values of Frankie and Lou.

The pieces are cut and sewn in a building that:

– runs entirely on renewable energy

– sources certified green electricity

– works with energy that is generated by its 70 solar modules

– uses recycled well water

– Provides private health insurance for all employees

The production facility in Portugal is visited twice a year to check production and working conditions.

All standards are based on the criteria of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and include the following:

Ø Paying minimum wages that meet industry standards or laws

Ø Health and safety protection in the workplace

Ø Prohibition of child and forced labor

Ø Social security and employment contracts

Ø no discrimination

In addition, Frankie & Lou follows the “giving-back” idea and donates 50 cents for charity with every order placed online.

Only the finest GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified fabrics are used for clothing and accessories. GOTS stands for “Global Organic Textile Standard” and is a recognized standard that advocates more environmentally friendly and responsible processing of textiles.1 “OEKO-TEX®” STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles that have been tested for harmful substances. Consumers can rest assured that all components of the articles (including threads, buttons, etc.) have been tested for harmful substances and that the articles are therefore harmless to human ecology

In order to keep the clothing from production in perfect condition and to avoid damage (which would increase the financial and environmental costs), it is unfortunately not possible to do without packaging. However, frankie & lou takes care to create as little packaging waste as possible. Instead of packing each item of clothing individually in a polybag, frankie & lou reduces the packaging waste to the bare minimum and, for example, only uses a single polybag made of recycled plastic per box. . The cardboard boxes are 100% recyclable.

As soon as an order is placed, it is sent in a minimalist way. Here, too, a cardboard box is used that is 100% plastic-free and wrapping paper made from 100% recycled material and a small thank you postcard that was also printed on recycled cardboard with non-toxic inks.

When choosing the cardboard boxes, great importance was attached to sustainability. Each of the frankie & lou boxes is 100% recyclable. In order to protect the environment and not to pollute it even more, no additional external packaging material is used when shipping.

In the spirit of everything frankie & lou creates, the packaging is as minimal and clean as possible and frankie & lou is always looking for greener and better options

The products are shipped via DHL “Go Green”. This is an environmental protection program to offset the greenhouse gases produced by the transport. Not only is the shipment delivered quickly and safely, it also makes a positive contribution to climate protection. Sustainability is very important to Frankie & Lou, this starts with the selection of our materials through to the packaging and ends with the dispatch. For love of the environment.

Thank you for your support!
