Much of the global fashion industry is opaque, exploitative and environmentally harmful and revolutionary changes are urgently needed. I love fashion, but I do not want my clothes to be made at the expense of people or our planet.

That’s why frankie & lou offers decelerated and conscious children’s fashion – Slow Kids Fashion, sustainable, decelerated fashion that contrasts with the fast-moving mass goods of the fashion industry.

frankie & lou focuses on timeless basics and key pieces that can be combined well. In our collections we use only high-quality materials and fabrics sustainable, pollutant-tested fabrics in certified organic quality. As a sustainable children’s fashion label, frankie & lou wants to take responsibility for people and the environment and create an awareness for decelerated fashion.

You can make a big contribution to changing the fashion world by supporting labels that produce sustainably or buy second-hand clothes. The love for fashion and an appreciative attitude towards people and the environment can be combined very well. frankie & lou wants to contribute to this.

Part of the collection was produced in a small factory in Portugal, which I visited myself to get a picture of the working and production conditions on site and with which I am in regular personal contact. I have met loving and dedicated people on site, who love their work and work under high social standards.

Only high quality and certified biomaterials that are free of any harmful substances are used. To ensure that my articles are durable and can be passed on to siblings, family and friends as I would like them to be, high quality workmanship is very important to me.

The bags in which the articles are packed and delivered are 100% recycled and biodegradable. Furthermore, I use cardboard made from recycled materials, work with renewable energy in my workplace, try to print as little as possible and if I can, then on recycled paper.

Today we are used to receive an order the very next day, free of shipping and return costs of course. Discount campaigns and bargain prices tempt us to more and more consumption.

But there is another way. We can buy more consciously, pay attention to quality and support smaller and local labels that represent our values and views. We shouldn’t ignore the fact that fashion is one of the biggest polluters, next to the food industry (read more here). frankie & lou acknowledges this fact and we do our best to contribute to a revolution in the fashion business.

In the beginning Leny not only designed all collections herself, chose the fabrics, developed the cuts and patterns, took care of marketing etc., but also produced (sewed) them herself. With increasing demand this was no longer possible and she decided to outsource the production. Collection design and planning, pattern design and selection of fabrics and prints, Leny continues to do it herself.

Frankie & Lou is handmade in small series in a factory in Portugal. The interior shares the core values of frankie and lou. The collections are produced in a family business which is a family business:

– runs entirely on renewable energy

– certified green electricity

– works with energy generated by its 70 solar modules

– recycled well water used

– provides all employees with private health insurance

The production plant in Portugal is visited twice a year to check the production and working conditions.

frankie & lou tries to get closer to a more conscientious fashion world. It includes social standards of the production chain. All standards are based on the criteria of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and include the following:

Ø Payment of minimum wages that comply with industry standards or the law

Ø Health and safety protection at work Ø Prohibition of child and forced labour
Ø Social security and employment contracts
Ø no discrimination

In addition, Frankie & Lou follows the “giving back” idea and donates 50 cents to charity with every order placed in the online shop.

Only the finest GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified fabrics are used for clothing and accessories. GOTS stands for “Global Organic Textile Standard” and is a recognised standard that promotes the environmentally friendly and responsible processing of textiles.1 “OEKO-TEX®” STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. Consumers can rest assured that all components of the articles (including threads, buttons, etc.) have been tested for harmful substances and that the articles are therefore ecologically safe for humans.2

In order to keep the clothes from production in perfect condition and to avoid damage (which would increase the financial and ecological costs), it is unfortunately not possible to dispense with packaging. However, frankie & lou takes care to produce as little packaging waste as possible. Instead of packing each garment individually in a polybag, frankie & lou reduces the packaging waste to a minimum and uses, for example, only one single polybag made of recycled plastic per box. The cartons are 100% recyclable.

As soon as an order is received, it is shipped in a minimalist way. Again, a cardboard box is used, which is 100% plastic-free and packing paper made of 100% recycled material and a small thank-you postcard, which is also printed on recycled cardboard with non-toxic inks.

When choosing the cardboard boxes, great importance was also attached to sustainability. So each of the frankie & lou cartons is 100% recyclable. In order to protect the environment and not to pollute even more, no additional external packaging material is used for shipping.

In keeping with everything frankie & lou creates, the packaging is as minimal and clean as possible, and frankie & lou is always looking for greener and better options

The products are shipped via DHL “Go Green”. This is an environmental protection program to compensate for the greenhouse gases caused by transport. Not only is the shipment delivered quickly and safely, it also makes a positive contribution to climate protection. Sustainability is close to Frankie & Lou’s heart, from the selection of our materials to the packaging and the shipment. Out of love for the environment.

Thanks a lot for your support!
